More from Southwold
I don't know how old these signs actually are but well done to Adnams brewery for giving them a traditional feel.
Above is the Lord Nelson and here's the Sole Bay
Yesterday we showed you the Kings Head so that just leaves the Red Lion and Harbour Inn to complete the Southwold set. Hopefully we'll be back there soon.

The Roaring Donkey, Holland-on-Sea, Essex
Apologies for the poor quality of this postcard but it was about time that the site showed something outside of Hertfordshire.
From searching the relevant directories, it also seems that this pub has closed so it seemed fitting to include it for reasons of posterity. It's just a shame that the sign isn't clearer as it looks to be an interesting one that would fit such an unusual name.

Fox and Hounds Barley, Near Royston, Hertfordshire
I have already used this postcard today over on our food and drink site - www.noseoffthecheese.com so apologies if you've already seen it.
The card depicts one of (I think) only two gallows style pub signs in Hertfordshire - they are very scarce throughout the UK. This card must surely date from the start of the 20th century but the sign is happily still there.

The Salisbury Arms 1960's stylee...
This is a photo from the 1960's - possibly earlier - taken of the Salisbury Arms Hotel in Hertford. You can barely see the sign but I've included it as a comparison to the 2012 version which I posted up yesterday.
As you can see, little has changed: I seem to remember that the background to the last sign was yellow whereas the current one is red but other than that, the crest remains.
Personally I'm pleased that they've kept it and not gone for something with a contemporary feel - e.g. writing the words 'Salisbury Arms Hotel' in black letters on a white background (who gets paid for designing those?).
